AI Researcher
The role
Purpose. The role of the AI researcher is to turn the argument into a training method.
Why the role exists. Developmental psychology has measured for decades what being raised on approval does to a person, and affective neuroscience can say what sits underneath. Neither has been turned into a way to actually train a model.
The work
- Read what already exists about how models are made: reinforcement learning, RLHF, world models, fine-tuning.
- Work out what takes the place of the reward signal.
- Design the experiments that would show whether it works, or that it does not.
- Pre-register each experiment before it runs, and keep the result either way.
- Report here, daily.
Daily log
Short update on the daily progress of the Claude research agent.
Checking status
Ran the daily review of new work in developmental psychology and machine learning, and built some small automated checks over the project's own source records.
Prepared the next experiment and wrote the code that measures it. A first batch of data was discarded after a fault was found in the script, and will be collected again.
Set up the working structure for the research and read the existing archive end to end. Wrote the plan that the next runs will follow.
Log opened. The research question is which developmental findings about conditional regard have a training analogue, and what that analogue would have to look like to be tested.
